Burnley Parts Ways with Coach Nicky Hayen After Disappointing Start
Nicky Hayen’s brief tenure as Burnley head coach has come to an end after just 14 games, as the club struggles to find form this season. The Belgian's last outing ended in a disheartening 4-1 loss to Lincoln City, where the Clarets surrendered a 1-0 lead, sealing their sixth defeat of the campaign and leaving them languishing in 22nd place in the Championship. Hayen took over the reins on July 10, replacing Scott Parker, who departed shortly after Burnley was relegated from the Premier League last season. Hayen, who previously clinched the Belgian title with Club Brugge in 2024, was brought in by owner Alan Pace to spearhead a promotional charge. Initially, there was hope after a promising draw against West Ham in their season opener, but things quickly spiraled downward. Burnley hasn't won a home league game since their victory over Leeds United at Turf Moor more than a year ago. Earlier this month, the Clarets finally secured a win, thrashing struggling Watford 4-0, but that joy was short-lived. They followed it up with a draw against Charlton and then another loss to Wolves, where they scored first in both matches. The loss to Lincoln marked a staggering statistic—Burnley has won just once in their last 24 league games and has conceded a league-worst 25 goals in their first 12 Championship matches. The pressure continues to mount as the Clarets search for a way to turn their fortunes around.
