EFL Manager Shake-Up: The Latest Moves
Michael Duff has kicked off the managerial merry-go-round in the EFL for the 2026-27 season, becoming the first gaffer to be shown the door after leaving Wycombe Wanderers.
BBC Sport is keeping tabs on all the permanent managerial changes happening in the Premier League, Scottish Premiership, Women's Super League, English Football League, and the National League.
In terms of new arrivals, Tom Hounsell has taken the reins at Wycombe Wanderers as of October 10. Just a few days earlier, on October 6, Michael Duff was confirmed as the new boss at Bradford City. Robbie Savage joined Peterborough United on October 2, while Pete Wild was appointed at Hartlepool on October 1.
On the flip side, the exits have been notable. Andy Woodman parted ways with Bromley on October 22, followed closely by Colin Kazim-Richards leaving Crawley Town on October 21. Earlier in the month, Lee Cattermole exited Gateshead on October 4, and Robbie Savage also made a swift departure from Forest Green Rovers on October 2.
Graham Alexander made headlines on September 28 when he took over at Preston North End, having previously left Bradford City on the same day. Other managerial movements included Luke Williams departing Peterborough United and Lee Clark leaving Hartlepool on September 19. Paul Heckingbottom bid farewell to Preston North End on September 13, and Michael Duff’s exit from Wycombe occurred on September 8. Glenn Whelan also moved on from Livingston on September 7.
All these changes signal a dramatic start to the season as clubs hunt for the right leadership to drive their ambitions forward.
