Tonight’s clash unfolds amid unrest in Barcelona, with reports of 128 arrests related to vandalism and looting in the city center, as confirmed by local police.
Despite the chaos, the match proceeds with heightened security measures in place after it was labeled “high-risk” last week. Let’s not forget that this fixture was postponed back in 2019 due to protests.
In a blow for Madrid, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been ruled out due to illness, with the club announcing, “Courtois is a last-minute withdrawal (from the squad) due to a bout of the flu.” Andriy Lunin will take his place in goal.
Is the clásico getting its spark back? This fierce rivalry, which has captivated fans for over a century, saw its intensity peak during the Ronaldo-Messi era, where each match felt like a heavyweight boxing match.
While the rivalry remains fierce, the clásico has lost some of its edge in recent years. However, Mourinho's return to Madrid is stirring the pot, rekindling the media battles that once made this fixture unmissable.
Tonight's match holds significant weight, especially for the visitors. Barcelona, under Hansi Flick, has kicked off their season with nine consecutive wins, leading Madrid by six points. That gap could widen or shrink dramatically by the end of this encounter.
All eyes will be on Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé, two phenomenal talents set to take center stage in this derby for years to come.
In essence, the biggest spectacle in world football is upon us. So settle in as the action kicks off at 8pm GMT, 9pm local time.
