Everton's Cup Dream Lives On After Defeating Newcastle 3-1
Everton is celebrating a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, securing their place in the quarter-finals.
The match, held at Hill Dickinson Stadium, saw goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney, and Thierno Barry, while Dan Burn managed a late consolation for the visitors.
With this win, Everton will face League Two side Fleetwood Town in December, following their stunning upset against Arsenal earlier in the week. This presents a golden opportunity for the Toffees to reach their first cup semi-final since 2016.
Before kick-off, Everton made headlines by dropping Jack Grealish for a disciplinary issue, reportedly due to a missed training session earlier in the week.
The Toffees opened the scoring out of the blue in the 34th minute. Tyrique George's relentless pressure forced Amar Dedic into a mistake, allowing Hackney to flick the ball to Garner, who expertly curled it into the bottom corner.
Just as the first half was coming to a close, Everton doubled their lead. Hackney found the net from a precise cross by Barry, marking his first goal for the club and sending the hosts into the break with a comfortable advantage.
The third goal came in the 69th minute, as Barry capped off a swift counter-attack. After receiving a pass from Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, he displayed great composure and slotted the ball into the top corner.
While Burn managed to head in a late goal for Newcastle in the 89th minute, it was merely a consolation, as they couldn't mount a comeback after falling behind by three.
Everton’s performance was a statement of intent, showing they have the talent and determination to make a serious run in this competition.
