Hearts Suffer Major Blow as Calvin Miller Faces Two-Month Layoff
Calvin Miller's hopes for a first Scotland call-up have taken a hit as he faces a two-month absence from the pitch. The winger suffered a knee injury during Hearts’ Premier Sports Cup semi-final loss to Hibernian, and surgery is now necessary.
Adding to the club's troubles, midfielder Thomas Magnusson will also be sidelined until after the international break following a concussion sustained in the first half at Hampden Park.
These injuries further exacerbate an already extensive list for Hearts, leaving head coach Wouter Vrancken with just 19 players for Thursday's Conference League clash against Thun, significantly short of the usual maximum squad size of 25.
With Miller and Magnusson out, the Edinburgh club now has 10 first-team players unavailable due to injuries.
Hearts initially took the lead at Hampden, but things quickly unraveled. Magnusson was forced to exit after just 14 minutes, and Miller followed suit, heading to the dressing room in the 37th minute. Hibernian capitalized on the situation, taking a 2-1 lead shortly thereafter.
Before his injury, the 28-year-old Miller had been generating buzz as a potential pick for the upcoming Scotland squad, especially after fellow winger Josh McPake and striker James Wilson received their call-ups last month.
In a challenging first year under new ownership, Hearts recently reported a record loss of £2.4 million.
