Maddison Set to Shine Against Palace Despite Injury Concerns
Tottenham's midfielder James Maddison is ready to take on Crystal Palace this Saturday, manager Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed, putting to rest any fears following an injury scare last week.
The England international, who limped off in the 51st minute during Spurs' solid 2-0 win over Chelsea, raised eyebrows about his fitness. Having spent much of last season sidelined due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, fans were understandably concerned.
Maddison's start to the new season was rocky as well, suffering a shoulder fracture in the opening match against Brentford. However, he made a triumphant return earlier this month, netting a stunning goal in a 3-1 victory against Coventry.
When discussing Maddison’s status, De Zerbi expressed confidence in his availability. "This week he didn’t train like the others, but for tomorrow he is available, and he is a special player for us," he stated.
He added, "For players like James, who are coming back from long injuries, they need extra work compared to others. He has been training hard for four or five weeks now, so losing a couple of days isn’t a major issue. We’ll just need to assess the risk moving forward."
Since Maddison's return, Spurs have secured wins against both Coventry and Chelsea, climbing to 14th in the Premier League after escaping the relegation zone.
Maddison, who joined Tottenham from Leicester City in 2023 for £40 million, has made a significant impact, scoring 17 goals and providing 21 assists in 85 appearances for the club.
With his creativity and vision, can Maddison be the player to help Spurs connect everything on the pitch?
