Moyes Leaves Door Open for Grealish's Everton Comeback
Everton manager David Moyes has suggested that Jack Grealish could still have a future with the club, although he’s uncertain when the midfielder will rejoin the squad.
The 31-year-old, currently on loan from Manchester City, missed both of Everton's recent victories against Newcastle due to a disciplinary matter. Grealish was notably absent from Thursday's 3-1 triumph in the Carabao Cup, following what the club described as an unauthorized absence from training.
He sat out once again on Monday during the Premier League clash, which saw Everton secure a narrow 1-0 win, courtesy of Thierno Barry's goal. While the club cited fitness issues for Grealish's absence, Moyes was tight-lipped post-match.
"He’s unavailable at the moment, and we’ll decide with the club when we think he’ll be fit to return," Moyes told BBC Sport, dodging questions about the nature of Grealish’s absence.
When pressed for clarity on whether the issue was fitness-related, he simply reiterated, "All I can say is that he is unavailable right now." And when asked if the disciplinary matter had been resolved, Moyes added, "No, I can’t comment on that."
Looking ahead, Everton’s next match is a home fixture against Coventry on Friday, and Moyes remains uncertain about Grealish's availability. However, he did affirm that there’s still a path back for the midfielder at the club: "Of course there is."
Grealish is keen to revive his career at Everton after struggling to find his place in the City lineup, having made a hefty £100 million switch in 2021. Despite playing a crucial role in helping City clinch the Treble last season, he’s out of contract at season's end.
Last term, during his initial loan spell with Everton, Grealish managed to score twice in 22 appearances before injuries cut his time short. This season, his second loan stint has seen him feature just six times before falling out of favor.
As Everton continues to rise in the standings, the question remains: what’s next for Grealish?
